Rene Jansen is a Dutch-born artist and designer based in Oratia, West Auckland, who works in both sculpture and furniture design.

He works from a converted barn overlooking the Waitakere,s

His multidisciplinary approach and craftsmanship finds its way in a variety of directions.

His furniture range covers the more traditional classic lines found in his oak farmhouse tables to the more contemporary lines of his tubular chairs and tables.

He also has a love of all things Japanese which finds its expression in The Tokubetsu , it features joinery, stains and timbers in keeping with this aesthetic.

All the furniture designs that are produced lend themselves to suit individual requirements, from size to stains and finishes.

Rene,s sculptural work is of a contemporary character and features aluminium segments that are used to create mandala style reliefs.

In his more recent Luminous range of sculptures he uses colourfully painted segments to create works that are reminiscent of compositions used in graphic design and logo style patterns.

Rene spend three years at the Corbans art centre working in collaboration with a variety of artists with various backgrounds and working in a multitude of disciplines.

With his hands on approach most pieces that leave the workshop are completely made and designed in house with most materials sourced locally.

Rene,s studio has a number of works on display and can be visited on saturdays from 9 till 3 or during the week by appointment.
